Codeberg
EU verifiedNon-profit, open-source Git platform from Germany (Forgejo-based) – the European alternative to GitHub.
Codeberg is a non-profit, community-led software platform by Codeberg e.V. in Berlin. It emerged in 2019 out of concern about the concentration of code on US-controlled platforms (particularly after Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub) and offers Git hosting, issues and pull requests, Codeberg Pages, CI/CD and a Weblate instance. Its technical basis is the open-source forge software Forgejo, which is itself developed on Codeberg and can also be self-hosted independently. Codeberg is funded exclusively by donations and memberships – with no premium tiers or data selling. This makes Codeberg a European, sovereign alternative to GitHub, especially for free and open-source projects.
Note on ownership: Non-profit, community-led software forge by Codeberg e.V. in Berlin (registered association, founded in 2019). Codeberg.org is based on the open-source Forgejo software and offers Git hosting, Pages, CI/CD and a Weblate instance – funded by donations and memberships, with no premium tiers or data selling. Forgejo can also be self-hosted.
